During a lecture at Lund University in Sweden, Steve Jobs appeared to have “predicted” the creation of ChatGPT 40 years before the chatbot was invented.

In a clip from his 1985 speech, the Apple founder describes a futuristic system that strongly resembles what ChatGPT is today.

“Do you know who was Alexander the Great’s tutor for about 14 years? It was Aristotle. When I read that, I felt immensely jealous – I think I would’ve really enjoyed that,” he reflected.

“But thanks to the miracle of the printed page, I can at least read what Aristotle wrote without any intermediaries. A teacher might add something, but I can still go straight to the source.”

“That is the foundation of our Western civilization. The problem is that I can’t ask Aristotle a question — I mean, I can, but I won’t get an answer. My hope is that, in our lifetimes, we can create a new kind of tool, an interactive tool,” Jobs continued.

“So that when the next Aristotle is alive, we can capture his worldview in a computer. And someday, a student will not only be able to read what Aristotle wrote but also ask him a question — and get an answer. That’s what I hope we can do.”

The video quickly went viral on social media, and users rushed to comment on Jobs’ vision. “When he talked about AI back then, people laughed at him,” one person wrote in the comments section of the YouTube video.

“He visualized and articulated the greatest technology of the 21st century back in the 20th century. He’s a visionary,” said another. “Steve Jobs was incredibly accurate. But ChatGPT captures a segment of the world’s vision [the internet] — not just a single person’s,” a third person commented.
